Nasdaq OMX to close Europe arm

Nasdaq OMX, the US-based exchange operator, yesterday abandoned an 18-month-old quest to build a pan-European share-trading platform after stiff competition and low volumes forced it to retreat.

The move is a blow to the group as it marks the third time it has tried to build a beachhead in Europe's main share markets in more than 15 years.

Its cross-town rival, NYSE Euronext, has had a pan- European presence since the former New York Stock Exchange bought Euronext in 2007, later adding a small platform offering blue chips in markets not covered by Euronext.

Nasdaq said it would close Nasdaq OMX Europe, or “Neuro”, next month “following an assessment of the financial prospects of the business”. It has been offering trading in 1,400 shares across 17 markets.

The move is also a sign that a wave of new trading platforms that emerged in the last two years to compete against Europe's established exchanges is faltering as the weaker players fall by the wayside.

Eric Noll, executive vice president of Nasdaq OMX, said: “Despite our best efforts, the increasingly competitive nature of the MTF [multilateral trading facility] space in Europe has meant that the growth of the business hasn't reached levels necessary for us to realise our stated objectives.”

Nasdaq's efforts to crack Europe began in 1996 when it took a stake in Easdaq, a Brussels-based bourse. A later campaign to take over the London Stock Exchange ended unsuccessfully in 2007. That resulted in Nasdaq buying OMX, operator of bourses in Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. But to achieve a full presence across Europe, Nasdaq launched its own version of a new breed of trading platform, known as MTFs. However many were launched on assumptions about volumes that were overly optimistic. Two months ago Turquoise, a platform launched in 2008 and backed by nine banks, was bought by the LSE.

Black and navy are always dependable, but don’t be afraid to add shots of hot colors like red or fuchsia and even pastels to your mix. White is usually reserved for blouses in Fall (looks great with menswear prints).

Menswear prints

Menswear or haberdashery prints encompass houndstooth, plaids, pinstripes and checks. Fall is the perfect season for masculine prints to appear made up in suits, pants, jackets, coats and dresses. When buying classics, remember that you’ll tire of prints faster, so stick with smaller-scales (pinstripe vs. large houndstooth). Pair a feminine top and accessories with menswear for maximum style.

Boots

Boots are enormously popular for fall and winter, so invest in several pair and you’ll always have shoes for this season. Shorter boots with a heel look great with pants. Mid-calf boots can be worn with cropped pants or skirts. Knee-high boots go great with all types of skirts. Pair your boots with either bare legs or tights to complement the outfit.

Corduroy

This humble fabric may get touted by some designers as a year-round fabric, but who are they fooling? Nothing says “Autumn” like plush cords in everyting from jeans to jackets to bags. For maximum flattery, watch the wale (that’s what those stripes are called): thin wales add texture without heft, while the wider wales pack on the bulk.

5 Ways to Stop Hair Breakage Now

Hair breakage can range from Not-So-Bad to Call 9-1-1. Some factors that contribute to breakage are out of your control, but many of the reasons behind hair breakage lead right back to what we do to our hair on a daily basis. While stopping breakage completely may take some time and serious TLC, you can often minimize it pretty quickly by stepping up your hair care game.

1. Trim Your Ends
To some women, trimming equals cutting, which may as well equal “No, Thank You.” Done right, a trim only removes dead ends, not whole chunks of hair. When you trim proactively, you reduce the chances that your ends become so dry and brittle that a cut becomes necessary. Women who suffer from split ends have to cut them away before they break off on their own. When split ends get out of control, they travel up the hair shaft, making a serious cut more likely. Instead, why not trim the bottom 1/4 to 1/2 inch of hair every two to three months? Trims are more even and less traumatic than cuts that have to be done.

2. Don’t Brush Hair While Wet
Just say “no” to brushing your hair when it’s soaking wet. Black hair is already fragile — when wet, it’s in its weakest state. It’s fine to comb through your hair while wet; in fact, the ideal state to comb is when it’s saturated with conditioner. But brushing black hair stretches it sometimes to the point-of-no-return. A loud “snap” is the last thing you want to hear while styling your hair.

3. Get Some Protein ASAP
Depending on the level of your breakage, a weekly protein strengthening treatment may be perfect, or you may need emergency measures if your hair is breaking at an alarming rate. Usually, chemical damage is behind real breakage emergencies. 4. Let Your Stylist Apply Chemicals

While curling irons, flat irons and blow dryers make our lives easier, allowing us to wear just about any style we can think up, these tools can also cause irrevocable damage when used too often or incorrectly. Constantly “bumping” your ends with an iron will weaken, thin and break them over time. Using heat that’s way too hot even once can break your hair.

Oxfam, according to their web site is “A group of non-governmental organizations from three continents working worldwide to fight poverty and injustice.”

The winning bidder on eBay and his or her guest have been offered the chance to attend the Hollywood premiere of the IronMan 2 movie (travel expenses not included) and will also receive a complimentary session at the Cristophe Salon in Beverly Hills, California so that he or she can be properly primmed for the gala event.

Also up for bids at the same eBay site will be a signed LP record from Iron Man 2 Star Scarlett Johannsen herself, her hit single “”Realtor”" (a duet with Pete Yorn) and her very own power lifts from the set of the movie “”He’s Just Not That Into You.

Every Rolex watch will be priced upwards of 50,000 INR. Famous hockey player Jeev Milkha Singh has been appointed as the official brand ambassador of the watch.
